The Lady Rangers were able to earn a split with Union City and improve their Big 8 Conference record to 5-5 with 4 games still left in the conference season. The first game started off a little rough for the Lady Rangers on defense. The defense committed 3 errors and allowed 3 walks to stake Union City to a 4-0 lead with all runs being unearned. Reading battled back and closed the gap but eventually would fall, 11-4. Tayler Coe was 3 for 3 with a walk and a solo home run. Sumer Rodgers was 3 for 4 with an RBI single.
In a must win situation, the Lady Rangers came out swinging and put up 6 runs in the second inning. Tayler Coe was dynamite again on the mound and the defense showed up to secure a 7-5 victory for Reading. Kayleigh Schaffer hit a two-run home run to start off the scoring in the 2nd inning and also added an RBI single in the 7th. Baleigh Irelan drove in a pair of runs with a double. Hannah Reichhart also earned an RBI during the busy 2nd inning.
The Lady Rangers also honored their 6 seniors (Karissa Shay, Tayler Coe, Marie Weidmayer, Lauren McCoy, Kayleigh Schaffer, and Sumer Rodgers) before the game. The commitment and leadership this senior class has displayed is immeasurable. They have built the foundation for exciting times in the Reading Softball Program. Everyone involved in the program could not be more proud of a group of student-athletes.
