The Reading Boys Varsity Basketball team hosted the Union City Chargers this past Friday night.
In the first quarter the game went back and forth, 6 points from Nick Affholter would help the Rangers lead 14-12 at the end of the final period. In the second quarter the 5 points from Damon Black would help the Rangers build a 26-21 lead heading into the half.
In the third period the Rangers score right out of the gate and then go cold offensively. The Chargers would take a 36-29 led into the final quarter. The Rangers would however continue to struggle on the offense end, a late scoring spurt seemed to give the Rangers hope, but they could not comeback and fell by a final score of 48-37.
“We had a pretty steady first half and thought we had pretty good energy throughout the night.” said Coach Kerspilo. “It was just one of those nights where all of a sudden a lid seemed to go on the basket and we could not recover.”
The Rangers were led Nick Affholter with 11 points. Damon Black had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Alex Price finished with 8 points and Tyler Whinnie added 8 points.
The Rangers are now 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big 8 conference.
The Rangers will travel to Quincy to take on the Orioles this Tuesday. Game time is 7 pm.
