The Reading Rangers opened up the two day Pat Patterson Tournament by taking on the Hillsdale Academy Colts.
The Rangers would use the muscle of Damon Black along with Ben and Nick Affholter to its advantage against the young Colts and take a 35-24 lead into the half. In the 3rd quarter strong play from Alex Price and Black would help the Rangers build 55-37 advantage heading into the final frame. Every Ranger would score in the final quarter as the Rangers advanced to Championship game of the tournament.
Scoring- Alex Price 15, Damon Black and Ben Affholter 14 each, Nick Affholter and Tyler Whinnie 8 each, Dawson Santure 5, Cole Boyd 4, and David Bignell 2
Rebounding- Damon Black 10 and Nick Affholter 7
The Rangers would take on the Camden-Frontier Redskins in the Championship game the next night.
The team got out to a slow start and trailed by as much as 13 points midway through the 2nd quarter. The Rangers would gain a little momentum towards the end of the half and cut into the deficit but trailed 21-14 at the end of the half.
The Rangers would struggle in the 3rd quarter and trail 40-28 heading into the final period of play. In the 4th quarter the Rangers would cut find a some energy and cut the lead to just three points with the help of a 3 point basket by Dawson Santure. The Rangers would not be able to complete the comeback and fell by a final score of 54-42.
The Rangers were led by Ben and Nick Affholter with 13 and 11 points. Alex Price and Ben Affholter were selected to the All-Tournament team.
The Rangers are now 4-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Big 8 conference, They will host the Union City Chargers on January 4th. Game time is 7 pm.
