The Reading Boys Varsity Basketball team hosted the Springport Spartans this past Friday for Homecoming.
The Rangers would play with a lot of energy to begin the game. An 11-2 run would put the Spartans on their heels early. Nick Affholter would score 8 points, with Alex Price and Tyler Whinnie adding 4 points in the quarter. The Rangers would lead 17-8 at the end of the period.
In the second period the Rangers would continue to roll with 8 straight points from Dilon Denison. A basket by Mitchell Caldwell and then two three point shots from Cole Boyd would help propel the team to a 36-14 lead at the half.
The third quarter continued a strong performance by the Rangers. Led by 9 points from Alex Price the Rangers would extend the lead to 52-21 heading into the final quarter.
The 4th quarter would continue to see the Rangers pull away. All 10 players would score on the night and 3 pointers from Dawson Santure and David Bignell capped off a 69-36 victory.
“We played with an incredible amount of energy on both ends of the floor.” said Coach Kerspilo. “We strive to play that way every night and will work to continue this type of play for the final stretch of the season.”
The Rangers were led by Alex Price with 15 points. Dilon Denison scored 12 points to go along with 8 rebounds. Nick Affholter had a “double double” with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Cole Boyd finished the night with 7 points and Tyler Whinnie 6 points.
The Rangers are now 6-8 on the season and 4-5 in the Big 8. They will look to knock off the state ranked and undefeated Quincy Orioles at home Tuesday night. Game time is 7 pm.
