Rangers News · Recap of the Start of 2019 Season for Rangers

Week 1 – Defense! Defense! Defense! – The Clash of the Titans saw the defense of both teams come up big, allowing only 4 first downs each.  Pewamo-Westphalia capitalized on 4 Ranger turnovers and converted two 4th and 10 situations into touchdowns for a 14-0 victory.  Nick Affholter led the Landshark defense with 12 tackles, Elijah Strine and Ben Affholter added 9 each.
Week 2 – The Rangers bounced back in a convincing way against the Homer Trojans winning 44-7.  The Ranger offense wasted little time this week scoring 2 touchdowns in the first 4 minutes to go up 16-0.  Defensive end Brogan Wiler set up the 3rd score for the Rangers with just 25 seconds on the clock before halftime with a blind side hit on the Trojan QB causing a fumble that fellow defensive end Jayson Scoville recovered on the 3 yard line.  Senior fullback Elijah Strine punched it in for one of his 3 touchdowns on the night and the Rangers led 22-0 at half.  The 2nd half also got off to a fast start as first Porter Mauk intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards inside the 10 to move the Rangers up to a 30-0 advantage.  On Homer’s next possession Jayson Scoville made an almost identical play to set the Rangers up for their fifth touchdown and a 38-0 lead.  Hunter Midtgard led the Rangers offense on the ground with 14 carries for 133 yards, Roger Hill added 89 yards on 8 carries and 1 touchdown, and Elijah Strine chipped in 56 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Porter Mauk and Daivd Bignell also added a touchdown each.  The Landsharks came up huge on defense forcing 6 turnovers, interceptions by Midtgard, Mauk, Scoville, and Bignell along with 2 fumble recoveries, one each by Scoville and Strine.  Porter Mauk led in tackles with 6 and David Bignell added 5.  Week 3 sees the Rangers play their home opener against one of the pre-season favorites the Concord Yellowjackets.
