The Reading Ranger JV football team travelled to Bronson this past Thursday night to take on the Vikings. The Rangers would come out strong as a Matthew Stewart 1 yard touchdown, capped off a 5 play 48 yard drive to make the score 6-0 with 7:18 left in the first quarter. After exchanging midfield possessions the Rangers would strike again. This time a 1 yard touchdown run by Cole Webster, finished a 4 play 52 yard drive, to make the score 12-0 with just seconds to play in the first quarter. The next Ranger scoring drive of 85 yards in 3 plays, saw Duke Green find the endzone on a 56 yard touchdown run. Green would add the 2 point conversion to make the score 20-0 Rangers at the half. Bronson score to open the half and make the score 20-6. The Rangers responded as a strong kick return by Hunter Dewey and Green run, set up a 2 yard touchdown run by Maverick Messenger. This made the score 26-6 with 8 minutes to go in the 3rd period. The rest of the 3rd quarter went back and forth with a 28 yard pass from Colton Bassage to Brendan Stump highlighting play. The Rangers would lead 26-6 heading into the final quarter of play. In the fourth, strong play from Big Red defense held the Vikings in check. Stewart would add another touchdown to make the score 32-6. Hunter Dewey would help seal the victory with an interception. “Once again we had to move people around and had a bunch of guys step up to help us earn another win.” Said Coach Kerspilo.
The Rangers are now 5-1 on the season and will go on the road to face an undefeated Jonesville Comet team, next Thursday night. Game time is 6:30 pm.
