Rangers News · Rangers Win on Homecoming – Prep for Showdown with Jonesville

The Rangers delighted the homecoming crowd with a 62-0 victory over the Vikings of Bronson.  Matt Santi returned the opening kickoff 50 yards and 4 plays later Hunter Midtgard found the endzone from 5 yards out and then ran in the 2 point conversion as the Rangers went up 8-0 after just 1 minute and 20 seconds.  The second possession it took the Rangers 6 plays before Elijah Strine ran it in from 2 yards out.  Roger Hill tacked on the 2 point conversion to make it 16-0.  From that point on the big plays started to come.  The third drive took just 2 plays as Dawson Santure pick up some great blocks initially and then cut and weaved his way for a 67 yard TD scamper.  Roger Hill again added the 2 point conversion, 24-0. After holding Bronson on downs the Rangers scored in just 3 plays on their next possession with David Bignell sweeping the left end for a 37 yard touchdown run, 30-0.  Two plays later Porter Mauk picked off a pass and raced into the endzone for an apparent Land Shark touchdown, but a late block moved the ball back to the 28 yard line.  Not to worry, on the first play Hunter Midtgard bolted in for his second score, 37-0, end of the first quarter.  In the second quarter Ben Affholter stripped the ball from a Viking ball carrier and raced the other way for what appeared to be the Land Sharks 2nd defensive TD of the night, but again it was taken away as the 290 pound linebacker was flagged for hurdling an opponent.  Roger Hill took advantage of the short field and ran it in from 19 yards out, 43-0.  Following the next Bronson punt, Hunter Midtgard ran away from everyone for an 82 yard touchdown run, his 3rd of the night, 50-0.  Just when you thought the first half fireworks were over the defense stepped up again and forced another Viking punt.  This time Dawson Santure made a spectacular over the shoulder catch of the punt picked up a key block and sprinted to the wall and then down the sideline for a 72 yard score, making the half time score 56-0.  Matt Santi added a 10 yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter making the final score 62-0.  Blake Carroll added two extra point kicks.
The Land Shark defense was smothering once again, allowing just 61 total yards.  The Sharks found the end zone twice only to be negated by the late penalties.  Nick Affholter led the defense with 8 tackles and Matt Santi added 6.  Porter Mauk had an interception and Ben Affholter a fumble recovery.
The win moved the Rangers to 5-0 in the league setting up a battle with the 5-0 Jonesville Comets.  The winner will claim at least a share of the Big 8 crown.  Come on out and support your Rangers, should be a great crowd and a great game.  See you there.  FINS UP!
