The Rangers are crowned Regional Champs with a 26-21 thrilling victory over the Lenawee Christian Cougars. The Rangers used a punishing ground and pound attack behind the offensive line of Johnson, Elder, Moes, Rhoades, Affholter, and Reynolds to run the ball 54 times for 288 yards. Elijah Strine had a huge night with a career high 23 rushes for 134 yards and 3 touchdowns. Roger Hill added another 78 yards on 12 carries and Porter Mauk threw for another 68 yards including a key touchdown to Jayson Scoville.
The Land Sharks were tested but came up big again. The Cougars high powered offense came into the game averaging over 50 points a game, but the Land Sharks held the Cougars to just 9 yards rushing on 13 carries forcing them to pass nearly every play and holding them to a season low 21 points. Dilon Denison paved the way with 5 tackles, Elijah Strine and Brogan Wiler each had 2 big sacks. Ben Affholter had an interception and 2 tackles for a loss.
Perhaps the biggest moment of the game came with 5:51 to go in the 4th quarter. The Cougars had the ball facing a 4th and 10 on the Rangers 30 yard line when Elijah Strine burst through the line and came up with a huge sack of the quarterback. Of equal importance was the Rangers were then able to rush for three consecutive 1st downs to run out the clock.
The Regional Championship sets up a huge semi-final showdown with the Fowler Eagles. Both teams enter the game with identical 11-1 records.
