The Reading Rangers Boys Varsity Basketball team hosted the Addison Panthers this past Monday night. The Rangers amped up the defensive pressure in the last part of the first quarter to jump out to a 16-7 lead.
In the second period strong bench minutes from Eli Irelan, Mitch Caldwell, and Gabe Rife, along with 6 points from Dilon Denison helped the Rangers maintain a 9 point advantage and lead 28-19 at the half.
The Rangers would win the third quarter 13-8 with 3 points each from Irelan, Rife, and Porter Mauk and open the lead up even more as the went into the final period up 41-27.
The Rangers put the game away with nice passing and strong finishes at the rim as Nick Affholter tallied 11 points in the period, two free throws from Ricardo Cabrera would help seal a 60-36 win for the Rangers.
“We did a nice job of sharing the ball tonight and we were able to amp up the defensive pressure in spurts which help us control the game.” said Coach Kerspilo. “We got great minutes from everyone and our depth was a big factor tonight, it also makes for an enjoyable team win.”
Nick Affholter led the Rangers with 15 points and 4 steals. Dilon Denison had a strong effort with 11 points, 5 assists, and 4 blocks. Ben Affholter had 8 points and 5 rebounds. Gabe Rife and Porter Mauk had 7 points, with Mauk adding 5 assist. Eli Irelan and Mitch Caldwell added 6 and 4 points.
The Rangers will not have time to rest as they host the Concord Yellowjackets Tuesday January 7th. Game time is 7 pm.
