The Reading Rangers travelled to Jonesville to take on the Comets this past Friday night.
The two teams would play even most of the first quarter and with the help of 5 points from Porter Mauk the Rangers would lead 8-6 at the end of the period.
In the second quarter the Rangers would increase their lead with 6 points from Gabe Rife leading the way, they would hold a 20-14 halftime advantage.
In the third period the Rangers again increased the margin as 4 points each from Ben and Nick Affholter and a big basket by Mitchell Caldwell helped the Rangers take a 34-26 lead heading into the final frame. The Rangers would hold off the Comet comeback attempt with a 3 point shot by Dawson Santure helping seal the win by a final score of 46-38.
“This was a tough week, as we played three games coming off of winter break.” said Coach Kerspilo. “We got great minutes from everyone this week and did a nice job of rising up the challenge and finishing some tough games.”
Gabe Rife had his best outing of the season and led the way with 13 points. Ben Affholter finished with an impressive all-around night with 10 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists. Porter Mauk added 7 points and Dilon Denison dished out 5 assists.
The win was the Rangers sixth straight victory and their record is now 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the Big 8 conference. They will travel to Morenci to take on the Bulldogs this Tuesday night. Game time is 7 pm.
