Rangers News · Rangers Stand Alone in First Place in Big 8

The Reading Boys Basketball team hosted the Union City Chargers this past Friday Night.  The Rangers would play solid defense and three point baskets by Mitchell Caldwell and Gabe Rife would help the team take a 12-5 advantage at the end of the first period.

In the second quarter the Rangers would bump the lead up to 15 points the Chargers would make a small run but the Rangers would hold a 23-13 halftime lead.
In the 3rd quarter three point baskets from Eli Irelan, Dawson Santure, and Porter Mauk would give the Rangers a 38-26 advantage heading into the final period.
The final quarter would start off in an offensive frenzy and stay that way as the Rangers went on a 17-0 run over the first 3 minutes of the quarter.  Three point shots from Eli Irelan and baskets from Roger Hill and Jayson Scoville would cap off another Ranger victory with a final score of 73-30.
“We played pretty well defensively and shot well.”  said Coach Kerspilo.  “Our fourth quarter showed how much fun it is to be on this team.  We like each other and support each other and it’s just fun to be a part of this team.”
The Rangers were led by Gabe Rife with 16 points.  Porter Mauk finished with 15 points 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Eli Irelan and Mitchell Caldwell finished with 12 and 10 points on the evening.  Dilon Denison netted 7 points. Jayson Scoville had his best outing of the season with 4 points and 7 rebounds.
The Rangers are now 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the Big 8 conference.  The team stands alone in first place in the Big 8 conference.  The Rangers next three opponents are currently all tied for second place in the league.
They will start a three game road stretch this week as the travel to Springport on Tuesday night. Game time is 7 pm
