The JV Ranger Boys traveled to Springport Tuesday night and came away with a 56-43 victory. The first half was a back and forth battle, capped off by an 8 point Ranger run to end the half and go up 27-20. The Rangers came out hot in the 3rd quarter and put up a 25 point quarter, led by 9 points from Jacob Hamilton. A Hamilton three early in the quarter really sparked the Rangers, and the rest of the team fed off that momentum. The quarter ended with back to back threes by Sam Strine, the second one coming right before the buzzer, giving the Rangers a 52-34 lead.
Per usual, the Ranger back court duo of Duke Green and Cole Webster were a nightmare for their opponent, helping to create 34 Springport Turnovers. Colton Wiler led the Rangers with 11 points and Jacob Hamilton and Maverick Messenger were right behind with 9 points apiece. Colton Bassage played a very solid all-around game that included 8 points, 14 rebounds, 6 steals, and 4 assists. The win was a great team effort that saw great contributions from the bench as 9 different Rangers scored in the game.
Following the win, Reading improves to 8-3 on the season and 4-1 in Big 8 play. The Rangers next play Thursday evening at Homer, following the Ranger JV girl’s game.
