Reading’s varsity and middle school boy’s and girl’s cross-country teams competed in the sixth and final Big 8 dual meet of the conference season on Thursday afternoon at Homer High School against Homer, Springport, and Concord. Without five scoring runners in each of the varsity races, the Rangers lost the meet, but had some spectacular individual performances. Tyler Bays led the varsity boys with a new PR of 17:49. In the varsity girls race, Maggie Steele took 2nd with a new SPR of 22:05. Aubrey Pitts also earned a new PR (26:38) while senior Kayla Wohlheter (32:28) ran a new SPR. The middle school boys team took 2nd place, losing only to Concord. Dylan McCallister finished with a new PR (13:49) and was followed closely by Case VanAken (14:11) and Owen Parker (15:24) who also earned PRs in their final race of the season. The middle school girls had great races as well! Rosie Cabrera (16:54) ran an SPR in her final race of her middle school career, while Leah Headley (20:41), Bria Wiler (20:44), and Layken Morey (21:07) finished their season with new PRs. Congratulations to all middle schoolers on an outstanding season! The varsity Rangers return to competition at Pre-Regionals on Saturday, October 24th at Hayden Park in Hillsdale.
