Rangers News · Bays and Steele Advance to State Finals

Earlier today, Reading Cross Country’s Regional qualifiers Tyler Bays and Maggie Steele spent a very cold Friday afternoon at Ella Sharp Park in Jackson competing at the MHSAA Regional Tournament.  Tyler had a fantastic race quickly pulling into third place by the first mile and not allowing anyone to pass throughout the duration of the race and in fact pulling further ahead after the 2nd mile.  He finished in third place as a MHSAA State XC qualifier with a new PR of 17:18.  The momentum and excitement from Tyler’s race carried through to Maggie’s race.  While Maggie was in the middle of the pack at the first mile, she ran a solid first mile and continued to look strong throughout the rest of the race.  She took her time in the latter part of her race picking off runner after runner and moving up in the pack.  At the conclusion of the race, Maggie finished in 11th place and after results were tallied, she ended up 4th as an individual and is a MHSAA State XC qualifier with a new PR of 21:09.  Congratulations to both Tyler and Maggie as they have both moved on the 2020 MHSAA Cross Country Finals at Michigan International Speedway next Saturday, November 7th.  Tyler will run at 1:30pm and Maggie will run at 3:00pm.  Hope to see you there!
