The Rangers traveled to Homer to take on the Trojans in a pivotal Big 8 battle this past Friday night.
The team would have a balanced scoring attack and showed improvement on the road as they led 17-13 over the hosting Trojans at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the Rangers lead expanded as Dilon Dension and Porter Mauk scored 11 and 6 in the stanza. The Rangers would lead 34-21 at the half.
The Big Red would show no signs of slowing down in the second half as a more scoring from Dension and 6 points from Eli Irelan would help the Rangers lead 49-34 heading into the final frame.
The Trojans would make their best charge at the Rangers, however 7 points from Gabe Rife, who also had a strong defensive effort, would help seal the deal as the team would win by a final score of 60-49.
“It was a great night!” said Coach Kerspilo. “We’re really starting to come together as a unit.” “We had awesome, unselfish energy on our bench and got a tremendous defensive effort from Brogan Wiler and Jake Elder on All-State Homer player Lowyind Pullen who came into the night averaging nearly 20 points a game.” “We held him to just 6 points.”
The Rangers are now 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in the Big 8 conference. They will look to keep building momentum as they travel to Union City to take on the Chargers this Tuesday night. Game time is 7 pm.
