The Reading Boys Varsity Basketball team expected to host the Morenci Bulldogs on Monday night, however winter weather had different plans. A quick call to their neighbors to the south Camden-Frontier and the Rangers were able to host the Redskins in the battle of M-49.
A balanced scoring attack would allow the Rangers to open up a 13-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Big Red would expand their lead to 23-14 heading into the half.
The Rangers would continue to build their lead through the third quarter with 10 points from Dilon Denison, the Rangers led 39-25 heading into the final quarter. The team would remain in control and finish with a 55-39 win.
“We were thankful that Camden was willing to play as we might have lost a game in this already shortened season.” said Coach Kerspilo. “We showed a lot of toughness finishing off our fourth game in just seven days to start the season.”
The Rangers were led by Dilon Denison with 15 points. Porter Mauk had a strong night with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Gabe Rife finished with 7 points while Brogan and Colton Wiler each ended the night with 6 points.
The Rangers are now 3-1 on the season and 2-1 in the Big 8 conference. The team will have a tough task as they head to Homer to take on the Trojans, this Friday night in a game with large Big 8 conference implications, Game time is 7 pm.
